“A celebration of dance, music and culture from the African Diaspora”

Jungle City is proud to present the inaugural ‘Jungle City Jam – music – dance – culture festival taking place at Jungle City studios from Sunday 8th – 15th April 2018.

Enjoy a full week of dance workshops, teacher training courses, events, and cultural activities paying homage to a world of dance movements – rooted in African traditions and culture – that have helped shape and change the western idea of art and entertainment, captivating people from all walks of life, reminding us that we are all united by one original riddim.

The Jungle City Jam festival kicks off with an opening social dance party on Sunday 8th April from 3:00pm – 8:00pm in the Jungle with live drumming, DJ’s and performance acts tba, followed by four consecutive days of dance teacher training in Dancehall ‘Stylish Moves’ – delivered by the creator Latonya Style (JA). This course is for dance professionals looking to expand their repertoire and become certified to teach Stylish Moves and be part of a new wave of feminine empowerment sweeping the globe.

For the kids we have our Jungle City Jam mini festival for ages 3-5, 6-11, and 12–16, facilitated by both local and international dance instructors here to introduce the next generation to dances from the diaspora including Dancehall, Samba, Hip Hop and Afrobeats. Our beginner friendly adult workshops kick off on Thursday 12th April with an introduction to dance culture from Brazil, Jamaica and the USA followed by a film screening educating about the social change impact of these dance movements around the world.

Then get ready for a jam-packed weekend of wining, grooving, footwork, flow, grounded movement, roots and culture as we delve into the diversity and reflect of the synergies between dances of the diaspora including Jamaican Dancehall, Brazilian Samba, American Hip Hop, Trinidadian and Tobago Soca, Afro-house, Gumboot dance, West African dance, and Afro-beats in two full days of workshops and social dance jams each night with local and interstate DJ’s.
