Aicha Keita

Aicha Keita was born from a Malian father and a Guinean mother in Conakry, Guinea, West Africa.

Aicha Keita started dancing at the age of 7, training with Ballet Matam until the age of 10. She also studied dance, dundun playing and vocal skills with Percussion Wassa from the age of 7 till 14.

Aicha did her first tour of Guinea with Circus Baobab at the age of 10 as a contortionist.

When Aicha was 12, she began dancing with Ballet Fareta and Ballet Merveilles under Master choreographer and dancer Kemoko Sano. She continued to perform and tour with them for 5 years.

When Aicha was 18, she decided she would like to learn different styles of African dance, and auditioned for Master Dancer George Momboye in Conakry. She was successful in her audition and studied African and Contemporary dance under George Momboye for 1 year.

At 19 Aicha's dream came true. Kemoko Sano and George Momboye gave her a contract performing with Circus Africa Africa. A performance troupe that brought artists together from more than 40 different African countries performing their own traditional styles of dance. As a valued member of this group, Aicha expanded her dance skills by learning so many different styles of dance through performing with Master Drummers, Dancers and Singers. She made her first international tour to Germany and was then invited to tour around Europe for a further 2 years.

Aicha moved and settle in Australia in 2008, where she decided to broaden her skills further into samba and hip hop styles. She is currently in Sydney performing with several different Sydney-based groups including Musica Viva Brasil, Soul Drummer, Teambeat, Drum Beats & Rhythm Konnections.

Aicha's passion for dance has lead her to start her own company in Australia 'Aicha Keita Dance'. She teaches various styles of African dance, singing and dundun. 'Aicha Keita Dance' runs regular workshops and courses, as well as performing in various shows across Sydney and Australia.
