Our 10th anniversary! This year we had special guest teachers Mohamed Bangoura, Sibo Bangoura, Naby Bangoura (master Guinean dancer from California), our Ghanaian friends Odai Affotey, Emmanuel Aryeetey, Fred Nii Addo, singer/songwriter Miriam Lieberman and percussionist Elliott Orr.
We were blessed with beautiful weather on each of the four days, ate delicious meals and were immersed in rhythm with kindred spirits from morning until evening. The talent night showcased an wonderful array of skills and personalities, Alex Salvador brought us all together with some hilarious games and we witnessed some incredible performances by our African artists and Wassawumba.
We all left feeling buoyed up by the warmth of a wonderful community sharing what we love. See you all in 2025!
What did people say..?
You guys are THE BEST! Thank you for creating an environment that fosters musical, mindset and social growth with the most talented musicians and artists and such a welcoming community.
Camp Samatou – the next best thing to going to Africa to immerse one’s self in the essence of West African drum and dance culture. It was such a fulfilling 4 days learning rhythms, dance, songs and sharing this joy with so many like minded people from all over Australia and New Zealand.
Your ability to organise an exceptional event for all these wonderful teachers to come and impart their knowledge as well as the opportunity for students, friends and family to engage outside of a class setting is second to none.A wholistic approach to revive the mind, body and soul of all who cross your paths.
Thanks for organising and running the best camp in Australia
