Djembe en Ville Term 2 (photos)

This Djembe en Ville featured our effervescent Adeniyi Ekine as MC. This Nigerian entertainer has just been granted asylum after a long stay in detention. He is hilarious and an expert at his job.

We had awesome performances from drumming, dance and dundun dance groups and also from students of Kofi Kunkpe and Nii Kpakpo Addo (Freddie). These groups had an entirely different flavour from what Mitzi and Simon have been doing, and it was refreshing to see some of what else is happening around Melbourne.

The night was seen out by Marabou – an 8 piece Afro band featuring Bortier Okoe (Ghanaian based in Adelaide), Kofi, Freddie, Simon Lewis and other exceptionally talented musicians. We had lots of dance solos and crazy moves.

This Djembe en Ville saw over 100 people through the door and loads of people won awards in our quiz, and some students received prizes for their commitment and enthusiasm during the term. We ate delicious African stews with rice and chilli.

Thanks to all involved.
