On the last weekend in May, Mitzi travelled to Mount Gambier in South Australia to mentor a small group of young girls from Congo. The girls were between the ages of 6-19 and all very funky dancers!

Mitzi spent two days teaching the girls how to progress with their dance. On Day 1 we learnt about about teaching dance classes in Australia. This covered: structuring a dance class, how to advertise and find students, organisational aspects such as finding a venue, public liability insurance and recording student contact information. On Day 2, the girls taught Mitzi some very cool moves of their own and we all had heaps of fun. We also discussed performance: introducing a show, costumes, dynamics, use of song/instruments/crowd interaction, arriving early and making the most of a performance space.

We all had a great time and will keep in touch via Skype.

Thanks to Arts and Cultural Development Officer Merilyn de Nys and Z Girls Africana!

Best of luck with your classes and performances girls. xx
