Touring for the first time from Nigeria to Australia in September 2018, Yeni Kuti aka YK power, the eldest daughter of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, will be sharing her cultural knowledge and unique style of Afrobeat dance with the Melbourne Djembe community.

After learning from some of Fela’s best dancers from a very young age, Yeni is an acclaimed dancer and choreographer. Formerly a singer and dancer with her brother Femi Kuti’s band, she continues to choreograph his trio of dancers and regularly runs Afrobeat dance workshops for all levels at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria.

Yeni is a strong proponent for the concept of dance as a deep cultural expression that fosters a sense of self-worth, particularly for young women.

Do not miss this exciting opportunity to learn from Afrobeat royalty!

This is an open class, all-skill levels, ages and gender welcome.
