Bamako, Mali
This video was taken after dance class, when the artists decided to have some fun. The first dancer is Kafouné Diarra – one of my talented dance teachers. Bassidi Koné is playing lead djembe and the other dancers and musicians are all part of Bamako-based ensemble Bwazan.
Conakry, Guinea
This is what a dundunba party looks like. ‘Dundunba’ is the name given to this rhythm and dance – which represents the ‘strong man’ and is the national dance of Guinea. This video was taken in Matam – which is the centre for music and dance in Conakry. Many of these artist train daily with ballets local to the area.
