We have just returned from this epic trip to China to perform at the Tsingtao beer festival.
We spent three days rehearsing with Chinese drummers and dundun dancers at the company’s head quarters (about one hour out of town in a small village) then went into Qingdao for the show. We had the pleasure of working alongside the world famous Fode Bangoura. Fode is a Guinean djembe fola who has been a hugely influential drummer and is hailed as one of the best of his generation. It was a special treat to have this opportunity to work with him.
We also met some excellent young Taiwanese drummers who were flown in as support artists. This was a truly multicultural event – the world family united by our love for West African music and dance!
